Sucking On Many Levels

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

So here it is Wednesday and I still haven’t posted last Sunday’s playlist…and of course now that I want to, I cannot find it.  Add this to the fact that BK & Mr. E really sounded great on the show and you can’t find any evidence of that fact here on the site.  (I do have the recording of their performance, which will eventually find its way into the AV Vault).  I should probably just do all this stuff on Sunday instead of putting it off.

Morning X

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

I woke up early (earlier) for scab duty on The Morning X with Mike and Jason.  I was filling in for international playboy Andy Langer.  Andy gives the weekly entertainment insider update, so obviously the guys were slumming it today.  I had a blast with those guys.  I love listening to them on the way to the gym in the morning and you can see why it sounds like they are having so much fun:  they really are.

Here were some of my more salient observations:

–Austinite Patrice Pike, I predicted, will probably see her run end on Rockstar Supernova in the next couple of weeks.  For the record, I argued, that is a good thing…as Patrice is waaaaaaay too talented to get stuck with those gonads.  Supernova, I contend, looks like the makings of a real suck-fest.  Perhaps in some twist of fate, Patrice could start a band with Dave Navarro.  Now that’d be worth the price of admission.

–For the record, speaking of CBS television, Chillville, the radio show, is of no relation to Chilltown, the very public “alliance” on TV’s Big Brother.

–Speaking of Andy Langer, I reminded the boys that the original Sunday night show on 101-X featuring new and local music, circa 1995-6, was called Radio Free Austin and was hosted by yours truly.  When I took a job as music director at KMYZ in Tulsa back in ‘96, I told Langer I was running out for a twelver, and to hold down the fort.  Langer still thinks I’m coming back.

Naked News

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Remember Tamara Hoover?  She was the Austin school teacher who got yanked by the school board after discovering photos on the web of her in various states of undress.  The AISD termed her “ineffective” and forced her to take a leave of absence while they figure out what to do with her.  She and her partner Celesta Danger held a show at the Pedernales Lofts, which included some of the photos in question.  Check out their myspace page.

Another Game Of The Century?

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

The guy on sportsradio had it right this morning.  Speaking about the next ”game of the century” coming up September 9 at DKR-Memorial–#1 Ohio State versus #2 Texas Longhorns:  “If Ohio State’s defense steps up, they win.  If they don’t, we do.”  All things being equal, he’s right (of course, we’ve got a pretty big question mark at QB with the exodus of VY to the NFL.  Still, we’re stronger top to bottom and they’re breaking in 10 new players on defense (including big shoes to fill at LB and a full new secondary).  Prediction:  Texas 27, Ohio State 21.

Paging Dr. Freud

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Wanted to share this nocturnal transmission from last night.  So I’m in a hotel room in the Far East (Shanghai, Hong Kong perhaps), with some polynesian street urchin (perhaps a working girl) who removes one of her eggs (yes, that kind of egg), and then cracks it open, and scrambles it atop the dusty thermostat of the hotel room heater.  Jolted into reality, I awaken to the wafting aroma of the morning meal, of real life, creeping through the house.  Guess what’s for breakfast?  (no s!*t)
