Snakes On A “Phone?”

Friday, August 4th, 2006

I was excited–as both a film fan and as someone with more than a passing interest in marketing– when Matt Dentler from South-by-Southwest’s Film Festival passed along “this little piece of viral marketing perfection today. Apparently, our pal Gordon Paddison at New Line Cinema has developed yet another ingenious marketing plan for the marketing-wonder story of 2006, Snakes on a Plane. Wanna send someone a personal call from Samuel L. Jackson, talking about Snakes… on your phone? Click here.

The Hold Steady Are Coming!! The Hold Steady Are Coming!!

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Sometimes, life just does you a solid.  You may remember reading that the only real downer of my NYC trip was missing an acoustic show by The Hold Steady.  No worries…they’re coming to Austin.  October 8 at Emo’s.  Is that a Sunday?  You’re damn skippie it is!  Are they close enough (for rock and roll) the night before, close enough for me to try and coax and cajole them into performing on the Chillville program?  You already know the answer to that, don’tcha?

On The Air In Toronto

Friday, August 4th, 2006

So I do quite a bit of voicework for clients (mine and others) all across the US and Canada.  My favorite campaign is for a company in Toronto, Mr. Safety Shoes, which sells…well I’m sure you can figure it out.  I just found out that the owner of the company is so happy with the radio ads that each week he puts the new ad on the web for everyone to hear.

It’s a spoof on The Daily Show…the, ahem, Daily Shoe.  The fabulously talented Adam Donmoyer is John, ahem, “Shoewart,” leaving me to play the Stephen Colbert man-on-the-street role.  Adam also does all the writing, which leaves me in stitches each week when I go in to record.  Today he had me singing, which was ugly.  Not, like, “Janet Reno” ugly, but, say, ”American Idol Audition” ugly.

Is This Thing On?

Friday, August 4th, 2006

So it happened to me again.  Birthday beers.  Zonked early.  Wideafreakinwake in the middle of the night–again– for the all night grind.  I’ve learned to embrace my insomnia.  I kinda like it this time of night, even as my neighbor pounds some really bad hip-hop (the intrusive, menacing low end was what woke me up in the first place).  It’s peaceful to just do whatever the hell you want without any distractions from the outside world.  I going on an I-Tunes fishing expedition for the show here in a few.  I always land a few whoppers everytime I do this, so be sure to listen on Sunday and see what I came up with.

Happy Birthday To Me

And a quick shout out to all the Leos in the building.

Tony Scalzo is on the show Sunday.
