The Full Monty’s Catch of the Day (12/24/06) – The Knife

Friday, December 29th, 2006

The Knife is a brother and sister act out of Sweeden. The band may be viewed as a little different considering their views on the media, and mainstream music in general. You will never catch them out of costumer or full make-up, which has actually been one of the more distinguishing trade marks of the band. No matter what they are looking like, you will always get great sounds that will get your blood moving. The Knife’s 2006 release, Silent Shout, has been on several critic’s “Best of 2006″ list so I urge you to check it out. My track pick is Marble House, which happens to be one of the more mellow songs on the album. I would say it has a touch of Ladytron and Bjork, with influences from The Cocteau Twins.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Damon Albarn has spun off a new band from the ashes of others, which has quite the good buzz. The Good, The Bad & The Queen is the latest project from the frontman of Blur and Gorillaz.  Joining Albarn on this adventure will be The Clash’s bassist Paul Simonon, The Verve guitarist Simon Tong, and drummer Tony Allen. The band will be releasing it’s first album in early 2007 entitled The Good, The Bad & The Queen. Sitting in the producer’s chair is Danger Mouse, who is one half of the band Gnarls Barkley. Danger Mouse also produced the 2005 masterpiece, Demon Days, by Albarn’s other side project – Gorillaz. Sound confusing? It may; however, look for the new single, Kingdom of Doom, coming out on January 15th.

The Full Monty’s Catch of the Day (12/17/06) – Fink

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Fink is the singer/songwriter out of Brighton, England who has been compared to the likes of Jack Johnson and Thom York. Fin Greenall, frontman and main musician, started his musical journey in the Dance/DJ world spinning gigs around the world. After the bright lights of the club scene started to dim and an ambient techno record was less that par, Fink decided to pick up his guitar and get back into the influences that originally opened his heart to music. This included Joni Mitchell, James Brown, and John Lee Hooker. Fink has gotten the attention of bands like Zero 7 and Bonobo from whom he has toured and collaborated with. The bluesy guitar rifts with a hint of electronic are just what the doctor ordered if you are looking to kick back with a cool one.
