Ray interviews Andre Royo from HBO’s The Wire

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

Andre Royo plays the character “Bubbles” on HBO’s critically-acclaimed program The Wire.  His is one of the most inspired portrayals of a drug addict in TV history, and it was great to catch up with him during the week the show ended its fourth season.

Dead Man’s Decorations

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I’m sort of a freak for garage sales, and estate sales in particular. A few weeks back I followed the signs to an estate sale three streets over in my neighborhood. Upon arriving I found out that the deceased was the forty-something guy with the most kickass Christmas decorations in the ‘hood. Said decorations are now property of the Raydog residence, and I have to confess that I veering into that dangerous Clark Griswold territory when it comes to my yard monstrosity. We’re talking full-motion. My snowman tips his hat repeatedly. The rocking horse actually does…rock (metaphorically and literally). As a sidebar, it just breaks your heart to see two senior citizens selling off all the worldly possessions of their only son, who suffered a fatal heart attack at a scarily young age. So in addition to my bodacious spread, I also got a timely wake-up call to mix in a few more salads and keep a more watchful eye on the old cholesterol.

Ray-Blog is FUBAR’d

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

You may notice that the blog navigation tabs seem to disappear for certain blog posts.  I am trying to figure it out, but without much luck right now.  If you want to see any older posts, just click on Show Notes or AV Vault and you’ll see the archive and the links, which you can search from those pages.  It took me awhile to figure out that is was a bad idea to cut and paste from Microsoft Word.  I think that I have some weird corrupted post from some time back that is f^&king with the formatting.  I ‘preciate your patience.  Please pardon our progress (or lack thereof).

Flaming Lips Dance Party

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

From Flaming Lips mastermind Wayne Coyne: “Hello, this is Wayne from the band the Flaming Lips. We are doing this wonderful New Years show in Los Angeles and we need just a few dancers to round out the side of the stage. I want you to get your acts together and send me a little tape of your dance routine or your costume or your character, and we’ll see if we put you on the list to dance with us at this wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration in Los Angeles. So get them ready. Send them out to us, all right? Get to work.” All applicants must film themselves putting on their best moves in order to be eligible to dance on stage with the band. Go to www.YouTube.com and search “Flaming Lips Dance Contest” for more details.

LCD Soundsystem Sets Date for Sophomore Release

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

In March, 2007, LCD Soundsystem, led by frontman James Murphy, will release their highly anticipated second full-length album entitled Sound of Silver. This last piece of work came from a work for hire for shoemaker Nike in creating a 45 minute long workout song, the utilitarian and aptly titled 45:33.
