Vote The Chill Ticket In Austin Chronicle Music Poll

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

It’s been nine months (fittingly) since I started doing Chillville, and it’s been a lot like giving birth, sure.  It was preceded by labor pains and anxiety, which gave way to a whole new set of circumstances.  Sleep Depravation.  Unexplainable Depression. Diaper Duty (metaphorical, of course). And don’t even get me started about the tender nipples.

But every now and again, twixt the screaming and yelling and shitting, the little man gazes up at me with this effortless smile, just to let me know I have brought something wonderful into the world.  Then he vomits all over me.

If you feel the same, that your life is better with our little ChillFella in the world, show him a little love and vote in the Austin Music Awards here.

Radio Music Program:  Chillville w/ Ray-Dog, 101=X

And while you’re there, vote for my compadres as well:

Radio Program:  Morning X with Mike & Jason, 101-X

Radio Personality:  Trina Quinn, 101-X

OK, you can vote for whoever the hell you want, but that’s who I am voting for!

Eno Pushing the Knobs For Coldplay

Brian Eno will be producing the next album from Coldplay. Eno, who has worked with U2, Talking Heads, and James, is currently in Coldplay’s London studio recording the follow up to X, Y, and Z. They are rumored to test out some of the new material on their Latin America tour later this year.

January 28th Catch of the Day – Husky Rescue

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I am excited to bring you an exclusive track from Husky Rescue’s new album, which is set to hit the stores on February 8th. Ghosts Is Not Real, the follow up to 2005’s Country Falls, will be a mellow electronic sound inspired by film and photography. The Helsinki band’s first full length, Country Falls, was one of the finest albums to come out in 2005; it brought us several tracks that we play frequently on Chillville including City Lights and New Light of Tomorrow. Husky Rescue visited Austin at this past year’s ACL fest, which is where I got turned on to them. Diamonds in the Sky is the track I bring you. If the entire record is as smooth as this first song, then we are in for a treat.

The Good, The Bad and The Queen Are Coming To the US

Monday, January 29th, 2007

After playing several shows overseas, The Good, The Bad and The Queen have decided to embark on a US tour while hitting a few festivals in-between. The UK band lead by Damon Albarn will be hitting Austin on March 16th for the one and only SXSW Festival. This should be a treat for us since this will be the first US visit since the band formed last year. Their self titled debut is in stores right now.

Official Chillville Dentist

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

You’ve been hearing me talk about Dr. Shane Matt (pronounced Maht). He’s been sponsoring Chillville for several weeks now. It’s easy for me to endorse Dr. Matt, because he’s actually my dentist. He’s done great work for a lot of good Austin folks, Charlie Sexton and Roky Erickson among them.  If you need a dentist, hit him up.

The Knife’s Re-release of “Silent Shout” On 3 CD Set

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

One of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2006, Silent Shout by Sweeden’s The Knife, will be released in April as a 3 disc deluxe edition. This will include the album on the first disk, music videos from the previous two albums along with a live DVD on the second disk, and music from the live DVD on the third. The live footage comes from The Knife’s April ‘06 concert in Gothenburg, Sweeden. Their next single, Marble House, will be released on February 20th along with the music video to accompany it. If you may recall, this track was a catch of the day for Chillville over a month ago. You can check the Chillville archives for more information on this song.
