As usual, for this weekend you have a plethora of options for live music fun… let’s just start with your Friday night and go from there. If you’ve got a hankering for glamorous electronic, Ladytron is your best bet. If your wallet is shy, or if you’re still revved from dancing at Stubbs (which should end around 12), you can head down to Emo’s for the Soundcheck Magazine shindig. No cover, 4 cool bands, on until 2am, what’s to regret? The performance-art feel of Death is Not a Joyride has gotten some great buzz around town, and if you want your evening to end on a more rocking note Emo’s will provide the beats.
Saturday contains a free show at Quacks from San Antonio’s iLL Prospekt, who we’ve shown love before. They’re bringing their own sound equipment, so this should be their most impressive Austin show yet. Homegrown Alpha Rev and Jets Under Fire will be at Antones, or you could check out Diagonals, She, Sir, and Follow that Bird! At Emo’s Lounge. Also an option is Cowboy Junkies at One World Theatre.
And of course, Sunday is The Cure. If you didn’t manage to score tickets for the show in the 15-or-so minutes before they sold out, an alternative for your Sunday evening presents itself with their opening act playing just a few short hours later at Emo’s. 65daysofstatic is Brit-based post-rock, with a distorted, occasionally electronic sound and audio samples scattered throughout the live instruments. Pros at touring, the show promises to be really impressive, and almost make up for missing out on The Cure.
