Live Tonight

We’ve talked about Xiu Xiu before; last time Jamie Stewart and his band were in town their live performance blew the audience away, despite the strangely affectionate heckling of one drunken audience member (imagine “That song was very interesting! It was weird but I liked it!” delivered in a stilted roar over a relatively quiet audience; eventually Stewart replied “You’ve very persistent!” and the heckler, acknowledged at last, shut up). Avant garde, noise rock, experimental indie insanity; however you want to describe Xiu Xiu, their live show is intense and immensely interesting. They’re at the Mohawk for an early show; doors are at 8.

Also competing for an audience are noisy rockers When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, along with Dikes of Holland, Follow That Bird, and Horn of Afrika, for an entirely Austin lineup at Beerland. Or you could go with some great hip hop jams and head to Emo’s for the Cool Kids.
