Live from ACL – Day 1

ACL is the place to be for the weekend, so of course Chillville is right in the middle. We’re blogging live every day from the AT&T Blue Room, telling you what’s hot – besides the weather – what’s not, and what just rocked.

We arrived just in time for Yeasayer, who played to a mixed reception at Lolla last month. The consensus back then was that hot weather and glaring sunshine put a damper on their sound, which is admittedly suited to smaller, indoor packed venues and dark rooms. Today, though, they brought their A-game and rocked out to an appreciative crowd that stayed to the very end.

Sadly, catching Yeasayer meant missing locals What Made Milwaukee Famous, who were big crowd favorites for the weekend – according to the ACL scheduling site, over 4500 cool kids had them down as the place to be this afternoon. We did catch them for a few questions at the pre-party at Emo’s last night, though, and will be posting the interview on our YouTube account as soon as we recover from the weekend.

Vampire Weekend was summery and light-hearted fun, but we’re looking forward to the mosh pit at the quick-approaching Gogol Bordello 4:30 slot. Also today, N.E.R.D., where we might run into the Full Monty, and the Mars Volta.

The evening doesn’t end at the park, though; there are some serious afterparties going on all weekend. A huge recommendation is the free – free! – Belaire/Voxtrot/Cool Kids show at Mohawk tonight. RSVP at RollingStone.com, and get there early, because it’s sure to reach capacity fast. Also cool – a Hot Chip house party, Gnarls Barkley with CSS at Stubbs, and an insanely hush-hush MGMT/CSS/Black and White Years-DJ’d aftershow in a private location downtown. If you can find out more details, that is the hot place for tonight.

Have fun and stay safe, kids, and we’ll catch you tomorrow.
